The meetings of the Thematic Working Groups focusing on policy that took place on 11-13 June 2024 have set the scene for the upcoming 1st Institutional Policy Dialogue of the EUCLID Working Community. It will take place on October 10 2024, in Brussels, Belgium, during the European Week of Regions and Cities.
What is the EUCLID Working Community?
The EUCLID Working Community aims to reinforce cooperation in the Euro-Mediterranean area by improving, transferring, and scaling up sustainable public initiatives, strategies, and policies. It will bring together institutions, policy partners, and civil society representatives to promote a green and liveable Mediterranean.
Embarking on our initiative, the EUCLID Working Community’s Core Group sets the stage for strategic development, crafting the foundation for the future Association. This phase of meticulous planning and alignment with our goals ensures a seamless transition to the EUCLID Association, where the Core Group will continue to lead, fostering regional resilience and a sustainable Mediterranean future.
The 1st Institutional Policy Dialogue
The Green Living Areas Mission aims to (1) assist the Mission’s Thematic Projects in strengthening the implementation of their policy solutions and promoting their successful policy instruments and (2) amplify the transfer of policies by fostering dialogue among key Euro-Mediterranean policy-makers and public stakeholders.
To achieve these, several Institutional Policy Dialogues will take place, constituting a unique opportunity to experiment with concrete and effective use of policies in the several Green Living Areas topics. These Dialogues will be the forum for policy-oriented Thematic Project Partners and key Euro-Mediterranean stakeholders to exchange concrete ways to implement, replicate, adapt and upscale public policy instruments at the local level.
Our agenda: highlighting Mediterranean policy champions
Building on the conclusions drawn by the 1st Online Thematic Working Group Meetings focusing on policy held last June, this first discussion will be initiated by analysing a selected group of mature and successful policies, or policy champions, that touch upon several cross-cutting elements, namely innovation, financing, and community engagement.
Dedicated time will be allocated to each policy, in parallel discussion groups, to evaluate the conditions for implementing, adapting, and replicating them. The selected policy champions are the following:
- Policy Instrument 1: Mobility: transportation of goods
- Sustainable Urban Logistics Plan (SULP), Bologna, Italy
- Policy Instrument 2: Spatial Planning
- Superblocks, Barcelona, Spain
- Policy Instrument 3: Renewable energy and economic development
- GR-eco Island Chalki, Chalki & DAFNI, Greece
- Policy Instrument 4: Environment and innovation
- Public procurement of innovative solutions (PPI), Narni, Italy
Stakeholders involved in policy-making related to Green Living Areas are strongly encouraged to contribute their insights: this will not only support policy-makers at the European level but also facilitate the exchanges of experiences and best practices with partners across the Mediterranean basin. |
