ArtMED shares results and practical tools for planning autonomous mobility on demand

17/02/2026

How can cities and regions prepare for autonomous mobility on demand in a realistic and structured way, taking into account governance models, local readiness, and the needs of users?

The ArtMED project — Planning for Autonomous Mobility on Demand in the Euro-MED area — has been addressing this question by working with public authorities and regional stakeholders across the Mediterranean. As the project concludes, its partners are presenting the main results and lessons learned, including a practical planning tool designed to support informed decision-making at local and regional level.

ArtMED contributes to the objectives of the Interreg Euro-MED Green Living Areas Mission, which aims to improve the quality of life of Mediterranean citizens by promoting greener development models, reducing negative climate impacts on ecosystems, and strengthening regional resilience. By exploring how autonomous mobility on demand can be planned responsibly and integrated into existing systems, the project supports broader efforts towards sustainable and climate-conscious territorial transformation.

From exploration to planning: the .MOBI tool

One of ArtMED’s main outcomes is the .MOBI tool, developed to assist public authorities and mobility stakeholders in assessing and planning autonomous mobility-on-demand services. Rather than advocating immediate deployment, the tool offers a structured framework to help territories evaluate their local context, including enabling factors, barriers and priority needs. It supports the exploration of potential use cases and service concepts adapted to specific territorial realities, encourages reflection on governance arrangements and stakeholder roles, and helps identify planning steps and decision points that can reduce risk and improve feasibility. The tool is conceived as a practical resource to help cities and regions move from initial interest to structured and evidence-based planning. The .MOBI tool will also be featured in the Hub of Solutions of the Green Living Areas Community on the ETU platform. This will enhance its visibility and accessibility for policymakers and stakeholders engaged in sustainable territorial development across the Mediterranean, reinforcing knowledge transfer within the Mission’s community.

Final Event in Brescia

ArtMED will conclude with a Final Event in Brescia, Italy, bringing together cities, regions, practitioners and innovation actors to reflect on the project’s findings and future pathways.

The event will present the project’s main results and recommendations, demonstrate the .MOBI tool in practice, and facilitate discussion on governance models, deployment conditions and transferability beyond the project’s lifetime. It will also create space for exchange across the Euro-MED area and for identifying opportunities for continued cooperation.

ArtMED final video

To mark the conclusion of the project, ArtMED has produced a final video summarising its objectives, pilot experiences and key lessons learned. The video offers an overview of how participating regions approached the challenge of planning autonomous mobility on demand, highlighting governance considerations, stakeholder engagement processes and practical insights that can inform future initiatives within the Green Living Areas Mission framework.

Through these outputs, ArtMED contributes practical knowledge and tools to support more sustainable, resilient and context-sensitive mobility systems across the Mediterranean.
